ABC...easy as 1-2-3

ABC- Alabama Birth Coalition

This is an email I received from Midwife Karen Brock. Karen is a CPM licensed in TN, she must practice in Ardmore TN even though she lives in AL because it is illegal for midwives to practice in AL. Please give women a choice. Pregancy is not an illness, Labor is not an emergency and Delivery is not a medical procedure.

Would you like to help? [Side note: Please, please, please help a mama out!] The Alabama Birth Coalition has made it so incredibly easy to do so. Here's what our current need is. If you have not already registered with us as a supporter, please do so NOW. Head to http://www.alabamabirthcoalition.org/get-involved/ and fill in your contact information. It's vital that when I'm on the ground in Montgomery that I know who we have as supporters and where they're located in the state. ABC will not share or sell your information. It doesn't cost a dime to become a member. All if takes is a brief moment of your time to fill in your contact information. Want to go further? Do you have friends and family members across the state who believe Alabama families deserve access to legally recognized Certified Professional Midwives? (Remember, you do NOT have to be a consumer of midwifery care to believe that it should be a viable option for Alabama families.) If so, please encourage them to become members. Offer to enter their information for them! We need numbers--very, very large numbers. Our effort to legalize CPMs in Alabama is one of David and Goliath proportions. The majority of the most powerful and well-funded lobbies in this state are actively working AGAINST this legislation. Doctors, hospitals, nurses, public health, insurance companies . . . the list goes on. Please, help us make our voices heard in Montgomery. We will not be able to do it without you. Onward, jicm

P.S. Legislative update: our bill has been introduced in both the Senate (SB387) and in the House (HB462). In both legislative bodies the bill is pending committee action. If you're feeling REALLY peppy today, take a moment to head here, find your legislators, and write them a quick note letting them know how important the Midwives Bill is to you and your family. Thanks!
